Brazil has large areas on the coast with great potential for offshore wind. High wind speeds make offshore wind energy very interesting, but on the other hand, the local ocean is sometimes very deep, which makes traditional bottom-fixed solutions impossible. This provides opportunities for floating offshore wind solutions.
The Dutch Consulate General in Rio de Janeiro has conducted a market research about the potential for offshore wind energy in Brazil and the opportunities for Dutch companies in the offshore wind sector. One of the conclusions of the report is, for example, that the offshore wind potential in Brazil is 10 times higher than in the Netherlands and that the first offshore wind projects are already under development.
The Dutch Consulate general in Rio de Janeiro will present the report during the Webinar 'Prospects and Potential of the Offshore Wind Industry in Brazil' on Tuesday April 13, 2021, 3.00pm CET. During this event, the report will be presented and experts from Brazilian government agencies (among others: IBAMA, EPE and the Ministry of Mines and Energy) will speak about the offshore wind plans in Brazi, and Dutch companies that have their own office in Brazil will also share their experiences on the Brazil offshore wind market.
