SUMMARY:Webinar Offshore Wind in Portugal
DESCRIPTION:Similarly to the Netherlands\, Portugal has both an important track record and future ambitions with regard to the energy transition. In 2021\, over 57% of the total energy produced came from renewable sources. Portugal aims to reach 80% of its electricity consumption from renewables by 2026 and thereafter to become climate neutral in 2050. \nPortugal currently has only 25MW of installed offshore capacity. Yet\, wider wind energy has a very important place in the country’s renewable energy capacity: 30% of the energy production comes from wind\, through 5.6 GW of installed capacity. Around 4GW of this capacity was installed between 2005 and 2012\, creating opportunities in\, and the need for\, repowering investments. From the consumption side\, important to note that the country has around 80% of its electricity consumption along a 50km shoreline extension. \nDeveloping offshore capacity\nThe development of offshore capacity is now a top priority for the government. A 10GW auction will be launched by the end of 2023.
