SUMMARY:Seminar: Offshore Wind Developments in Sweden
DESCRIPTION:Sweden is striving to expand its offshore wind capacity as part of its ambitious renewable energy goals. With its long coastlines and strong wind resources\, the country holds great potential for offshore wind energy. However\, recent developments have highlighted significant challenges like a complex permitting system and national security issues. In November 2023\, the Swedish government rejected 13 offshore wind projects in the Baltic Sea\, citing defense concerns. Meanwhile\, Sweden is transitioning from a developer-led system to a government-led system for offshore wind development. This shift aims to better coordinate the permitting process and address these challenges\, while ensuring alignment with national security priorities. \n\n\n\nDespite these setbacks\, offshore wind remains a key part of Sweden’s energy transition\, with ongoing projects such as Poseidon\, a joint venture between Vattenfall and Zephyr. The government is focused on balancing renewable energy growth with both security and environmental priorities. \n\n\nJoin Mattias Schain on December 18\, 2024\, from 14:00 – 16:00 CET for a digital seminar\, where he will present the latest report on offshore wind in Sweden. The session\, held in English\, will focus on the findings of the investigation and its impact on foreign projects\, media\, and authorities. Interested in joining? Sign up by emailing your name & company details to mattias.schain@gov.se \nPractical information\n\nDate: December 18\, 2024\nTime: 14:00 – 16:00 (CET)\nFormat: Digital seminar (English)\nRegistration: Please register via email at mattias.schain@gov.se.\n\nThis is a great opportunity for those involved in offshore wind energy to learn more about Sweden’s future plans.
