France aims to be completely carbon neutral by 2050 and to achieve this, France is betting heavily on renewable energy which will have to represent 40% of the energy mix. Offshore wind energy plays a very important role in this. Moreover with more than 3,500 km of coastline, France has the second largest offshore wind potential in Europe, besides having confirmed to boost its capacity base, it also plans to become a world leader in floating offshore wind.

France is the only European country that has allocated a revenue support (of 1 M€) for commercial-scale projects. Currently, commercial tenders have already been published for floating offshore wind farms in the Region of Brittany, Western France: 1 park with a capacity of 250 MW and in the Region of Occitanie, Southern France: two projects of 250 MW each in the Mediterranean Sea. The winners of these tenders will be selected in 2023 and the two wind farms are expected to be commissioned by 2030. It is also planned that the two wind farms will later be joined by two nearby extensions of 500 MW each.

This event is meant to promote constructive discussions between all actors and stakeholders of this emerging industry.
