Global Offshore Wind Summit Japan
3 September - 4 September
With its significant and sizeable offshore wind potential, and strong industrial capabilities, Japan can be an offshore wind leader and seize the Asian offshore wind opportunity. Japan is well placed to be able to capitalize on these advantages, and deploy offshore wind at scale for both the production of power and green hydrogen.
Hokkaido has 5 sea areas for bottom-fixed offshore wind and 2 sea areas for floating offshore wind scheduled for public recruitment under the Renewable Energy Sea Area Utilization Act, and is an area that is attracting attention from many development-related parties.
The Global Offshore Wind Summit-Japan (GOWS-J) is Japan’s leading offshore wind power event and will be held from September 3-4 in Sapporo, Hakkaido, Japan. This event is aimed at leveraging Japan’s significant potential and robust industrial foundation in offshore wind power generation. With over 800 attendees from both domestic and international offshore wind markets, the summit offers a platform for expert presentations, discussions, exhibitions, and networking opportunities. More over, in collaboration with local municipalities, it aims to foster regional consensus on offshore wind power initiatives.
This event is organized by the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) and the Japan Wind Power Association (JWPA).
Netherlands participation
Holland Home of Wind Energy (HHWE), together with Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Tokyo, Japan, will organize a Netherlands country pop-up booth. We will showcase a compact overview of Dutch companies active in the Japanese offshore wind supply chain. Other European countries participating are Norway, Denmark, Germany, and the UK.
Participation in the NL pop-up booth includes a.o. the following:
- Exposure in the pop-up booth with space for company brochures;
- Shared TV screen at the pop-up booth for corporate video (max. 1,5 min) or PowerPoint Presentation (max. 6 slides);
- Hosting support on site from HHWE, NL Embassy and interpreters;
- Support from HHWE and NL Embassy before, during and after the event;
- Participation in the NL – JP side event(s), see below;
- Support in arranging individual meetings with Japanese stakeholders;
- Hotel and flight recommendation; and
- Joint promotion.

North Sea Seminar
To reach climate neutrality by 2050, offshore wind needs to grow to over 300GW by 2050 in Europe. The majority of Europe’s offshore wind capacity are currently located in The North Sea. With its exceptionally good wind conditions, it is home to the world’s largest wind farms, including the floating offshore wind farms in Hywind Tampen and Scotland.
Join the North Sea Seminar to hear about lessons learned in offshore wind in The North Sea on regional development and impact on local communities, sustainability in offshore wind development and floating offshore wind.
Meet with some of the major players who share their experiences from The North Sea and perspectives going forward. You will meet with companies representing different parts of the supply chain including developer, marine operation and installation companies and engineering and consultants.
See below the program of the event. The official invitation and registration will be send to participating companies in the coming period.
Program
- Opening remarks
- North Sea study – port and manufacturing infrastructures, vessel and workforce availability (speaker TBC)
- Impact of offshore wind parks on local economy (Erik Bertholet – Eemshaven)
- Floating offshore wind experiences from Hywind Tampen and Hywind Scotland (Yusuke Kakinuma – Mammoet, and other speakers TBC)
- Sustainability and offshore wind farms (PGS/TGS, Saki Zamma – Shoreline and other speakers TBC)
- Market and cost development for floating offshore wind (Yosuke Uehara – Rystad Energy, Yukinobu Uchida – DNV and other speakers TBC)
- Closing remarks
- Pitching with companies from the Netherlands and Norway
